As a franchise, Persona is an emotionally significant game for so many. What does this character mean to you?
Yusuke is someone whose arc is about discovering what passion is, about having to reconcile a sheltered life with what reality is today, and understanding how to properly put into words what you think your calling is.
More than why do you want to write as them, but why are they special to you?
Yusuke means a hell of a lot to me. The man’s been one of my favorite characters, because I’ve often struggled with my motivation behind why I do things, and with my decisions and creative process.
If there was something you could change about your character in-game,
What would it be and why

The idea had started simple enough—try and break through his artistic block. He’d cleaned the dorm, sharpened and polished his blade, and was considering taking a trip to the planetarium when the thought struck him. Mementos. Something about the abyss beneath the basic consciousness felt perfect for a composition, and after a quick rendezvous with their leader over text, they were off.
The upper floors of Mementos seemed almost normal, but there was still something off about them. The lower they went, the more it seemed a living thing—much like the American artist Geiger, come to think of it. Honestly, it felt like he’d seen the walls move as if breathing and some of the support struts seemed more like ribs than anything. Still, it would have to be looked into at another time—it was just the two of them here, not nearly enough to actually make a full expedition.
The pencil practically flew across the canvas as he went, each curve and block of the twisted subway sketched before dashing over to the next part of the sketchbook. Minor details, quick shading with the side of the pencil, even as the composition started to take form. Technical skill was something he had down at this point, but knowing where to apply it was what the judges would be looking for in the contest.
Honestly, without their leader, he wouldn’t have even noticed the Shadow—there was something so captivating about Mementos, how this hidden world of desire manifested itself. The battle was over soon enough—performance art of a different form, you might say—but that blank card was intriguing. Something felt more real about it than the paper he was used to, as if it hummed with a potential that was uniquely the cognitive world’s. Another mystery whose answer they’d find, hopefully.
